Mr. Qin Haiyan has for 18 years been at the helm of the China Wind Energy Association. When he assumed the position in 2007, China’s fledgling wind power industry could claim only 6 GW of installed wind power. Under his leadership the industry has grown exponentially. Aside from his duties at CWEA, Mr. Qin is Director of China General Certification Center, the Secretary-General of the Wind Power Committee of China Renewable Energy Society, and standing director of the China Renewable Energy Society. He is also the deputy head of the Climatic Resources Application Research Committee of the China Meteorological Society, Vice-Chairman of the Renewable Energy Committee of China Association of Resources Comprehensive Utilization and member of the Technical Committee of National Wind Power Machinery Standardization. He has personally led over 20 research projects in the area of renewable energies. For example, he was the person-in-charge for the “Analysis of the Development Potential of China’s Offshore Wind Power”, and the person-in-charge for the “Establishment of Certification for Wind Turbines”, a project sponsored by the PRC government, World Bank and the Global Environment Facility.
Professor Zhang Dongxiao, USA National Academy of Engineering-prestigious scholar forging energy solutions and environmental sustainability in both East and West
Professor Zhang Dongxiao is a distinguished scholar elected to the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 2017 for outstanding contributions to engineering research and practice. His work is internationally acclaimed in the areas of groundwater hydrology, unconventional oil and gas recovery (such as coalbed methane and shale gas), and CO2 geological sequestration His research has helped address key challenges in energy resources and environmental sustainability. He’s held endowed professorship positions at several top US institutions, including the Miller Chair Professor at the University of Oklahoma and the Marshall Chair Professor at the University of Southern California. In China, he served as the Dean of the College of Engineering at Peking University and as the Academic Vice President and Provost at the Southern University of Science and Technology before taking up his current leadership role at the Oriental Institute of Technology. His early career included a tenure as a Senior Researcher at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific and engineering research institute. He is a council member of World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on New Energy Architecture.
Dr. Du Xiangwan, Chinese Academy of Engineering, and leading voice in shaping China’s sustainable energy future
Du Xiangwan is a distinguished applied physicist and energy strategist elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. His career demonstrates exceptional contributions across nuclear physics, laser technology, and national energy strategy.
